Eco-Infrastructure Solutions Applies Enzymes to Reclaimed Landfill for Odor Control
Enzymes reduce the general population of Sulphate-Reducing Bacteria (SRBs) in anaerobic systems and therefore, over time, alleviates and reduces odor issues. Eco-Infrastructure Solutions applied the product to open pit landfills in order to reduce any unwanted odors as well as reduce methane output as a result of decomposition. The unique cultures within the enzymes are selected for optimum enzyme and bacteria production, assuring efficient breakdown of proteins, carbohydrates and fats when they are applied to any treatment area. A proprietary micro nutrient carrier provides accelerated germination and growth, while bacterial enzyme production reduces odor, BOD, COD, suspended solids, turbidity, and ammonia concentrations. The product works well in aerobic, anaerobic and facultative environments. The unique, non-engineered cultures contained in the product rapidly digest odor-causing organic wastes. Odors aren’t covered up – they are eliminated at the source. The product was applied to a 3/4 acre of existing landfill on a deposit of 60-year-old waste excavated from a reclaimed landfill to control the odor emanating from the contaminated soil. The full process involved applying moisture to dry excavated waste, followed by a 2-pass application of the product for odor control. Finally, an application of hydro-mulch alternative daily cover was administered over the enzyme-treated surface. Odors disappeared within an hour of application.
